Electrical Explosion Injured Two People At Ikea Tejon Distribution Center

FORT TEJON, CALIFORNIA (December 3, 2018) Two men were injured with burns at a Fort Tejon Ikea distribution center when an electrical box exploded and caused a fire.

The Ikea warehouse is located on Laval Road and the accident happened on Sunday Night. Authorities are saying that the resulting fire from the accident was put out by sprinklers.

One of the men inside the IKEA warehouse sustained severe burns to his face and neck as a result of the explosion. Investigators are saying that the warehouse could be closed for several days as power gets restored to the building.

Liability In Electrical Box Explosion Accidents

If you’ve been injured while working in California you will likely be entitled to benefits under the states workers compensation system. A victim will be eligible for lost wages and medical bills. In order to receive benefits, a worker should do three things.

  • Report your claim.

  • File the claim with your employer.

  • File an “application for adjudication of claim” through the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).

There is a statute of limitations associated with being able to file a claim, so it’s important to act quickly. When a worker is seriously injured, workers compensation alone may be inadequate. An employee injured on the job may also be able to file a third party negligence claim.

For example, there are a number of sources of potential third party negligence when an electrical box explodes. Transformers and electrical boxes can explode when there is a surge of power running through. Explosions tend to occur when wires are not properly insulated and they come into contact with each other. The company that was supposed to take care of the electrical box could face civil liability if this happens.

Electrical accidents can leave workers with serious burn injuries and high medical bills. Burn victims may need multiple surgeries and skin grafts. Permanent nerve damage is not uncommon. It’s important to seek the experienced guidance of a burn injury attorney if you’ve been injured in an electrical accident.
