Causes Of Head-On Car Accidents

Head-on car collisions are one of the most dangerous types of accidents that a person can be involved in. Victim’s are far more likely to suffer serious injury or death. Here are just a few of the reasons why head-on collisions take place.

  • Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of head-on car accidents. It has been estimated that nearly 25% of fatal accidents involve drivers who are intoxicated. Alcohol as well as prescription drugs can seriously impact a person’s ability to drive safely.

  • Fatigue is another major factor in head-on car accidents. If a driver is going in a straight line for a long time, it’s easy for them to become drowsy. This is an especially big problem for people that have to drive for a living. There are laws requiring truck drivers to get and adequate amount of sleep, but this doesn’t always happen.

  • Distracted driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Our smartphones can be powerful tools for communication and productivity. But far too often people use them while driving. It’s simply not worth the risk. An email, text message or phone call is not worth putting other people’s lives at risk.

There are a number of laws that protect victims and their families following a head-on collision. A car accident attorney can investigate your case and take steps to help preserve your rights. There are statute of limitations associated with filing a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.

Liability In Truck Accidents

There are a number of factors that Napa County police will need to investigate after the tragic car accident that killed Debby Zygielbaum. Truck drivers will generally be held liable if they commit a traffic violation and cause an accident. There is a presumption of negligence when a truck driver crosses a double yellow line and causes a head-on collision. If a truck driver was operating as an independent contractor at the time of a collision, they may be the only party responsible for the accident.

However, if a truck driver is an employee for a company and causes an accident the company that they work for may face vicarious liability. Companies are generally responsible for the actions of their employees. This is true as long as the employee was acting within the course and scope of their job duties. For example, if a truck driver was delivering packages at the time of an accident that may be within the course of their work. Victim’s of truck accidents will typically be able to file a claim for damages including lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
