Liability In Car Accidents
Drivers have a legal responsibility to operate their vehicles in a safe manner. Drivers should only switch lanes when it is safe to do so. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.”
Any driver that makes an unsafe lane change and causes an accident may face civil liability. The victim of a car accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover a victim’s medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. Many victim’s may not even be fully aware of their injuries until several months after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
