CHP Officers Russell Smith and Mitchell Perez Injured In Santa Rosa DUI Car Accident On Highway 101 By Fulton Road
SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA (February 17, 2020) – Two CHP officers identified as Russell Smith and Mitchell Perez were injured in a DUI car accident that took place on Highway 101.
California Highway Patrol officers are saying that the collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. near Fulton Road. For reasons that remain under investigation a Nissan Versa was traveling at over 100 mph when it approached a patrol vehicle carrying Russell Smith and Mitchell Perez.
The force of the impact caused the patrol vehicle to veer to the side of the road when the Nissan rolled over. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the drivers.
Officers Russell Smith and Mitchell Perez were taken to the Memorial Hospital in order to receive treatment. Police later arrested the driver of the Nissan on suspicion of DUI.
An investigation remains ongoing at this time.
