Jordan Lindsey Shark Attack: Jordan Lindsey Killed In Rose Island Shark Attack While On Vacation In The Bahamas —-> Support The Family Through Go Fund Me
ROSE ISLAND, BAHAMAS (July 9, 2019) – A 21-year-old student from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles identified as Jordan Lindsey has tragically died in a shark attack on Rose Island.
Family members of Jordan Lindsey are saying that they were snorkeling with a tour guide when the shark attack took place. Jordan Lindsey was with her mother Kami when she was attacked inside of a roped off snorkeling area.
Kami swam to her injured daughter and thought that a boat would take them out of the water. But this didn’t happen. Kami swam her daughter to shore and staff members helped pull her out of the water.
Jordan Lindsey sustained serious injuries to her legs and was transported to a hospital in Nassau. Despite life-saving efforts she later died at the hospital.
Now family members of the victim are saying that the tour company Sandy Toes did not do enough to help. According to family members they didn’t offer medical aid to Jordan and lacked even the most basic supplies like a first aid kit.
According to a statement released by the family, “We would not be able to live with ourselves if we didn’t speak out and later hear that another family suffered the same devastating loss.”
A Go Fund Me has been set up for Jordan Lindsey’s family so that she can receive a proper burial.
Preventing Shark Attacks
Fatal shark attacks are actually extraordinarily rare. According to the Florida Museum, the United States experienced the most unprovoked shark attacks in 2018 with 32 confirmed cases. This is markedly lower than the 53 incidents that occurred in the U.S. in 2017. The 32 cases represent 48% of the worldwide total. This is a decline from 2017, which saw 60% of the worldwide unprovoked attacks in U.S. Only one shark attack in the United States resulted in a fatality.” There are a number of safety measures that can reduce the likelihood of shark attacks:
- Always swim in a group
- Don’t wear jewelry in the water
- Avoid the water if you’re bleeding
- Don’t excessively splash in the water
- Avoid the water at night, dusk and dawn
It’s important to get medical aid as quickly as possible if you’ve been injured by a shark. Companies that offer tours in the water should also do their best to prepare to help a victim that is attacked. Depending on the specific facts of any case there may be multiple sources of negligence following a shark attack.
Liability In Shark Attacks
Tour companies have a legal responsibility to make sure that their guests are reasonably safe. Like all wild animals sharks can be unpredictable. But this doesn’t mean that measures cannot be taken to help prevent accidents. A tour company could possibly be liable for a shark attack if:
- A snorkeling area was improperly protected by netting
- They failed to keep a lookout for sharks and warn guests
- They contributed to the presence of sharks by dumping food in the water
- They failed to notify guests about a history of sharks in the area
- They failed to render adequate medical aid to a victim that was attacked
Time is precious after a shark attack. It is important to put pressure on a wound to help control the bleeding. An impromptu tourniquet can even be made out of a ripped shirt. It’s important that the bleeding limb is elevated above the victim’s heart. This will help slow blood loss before a victim is taken to a hospital. If a tour company failed to adequately help a victim that died they may face civil liability for the accident.
The family of any victim that died in a shark attack may be able to seek justice through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a wrongful death claim can help cover funeral expenses, medical bills, lost wages, loss of love and emotional trauma. Depending on the terms of any civil claim, a tour company could also be forced to amend their safety procedures to reduce the possibility of future attacks. A wrongful death attorney can investigate your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are.
