SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA (February 13, 2020) – A 37-year-old man identified as Leonel Tinoco has tragically died in a car accident with an intoxicated driver along West Stowell Road.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the collision took place around 1:20 a.m. near Blosser Road and Hanson Way. For reasons that remain under investigation Leonel Tinoco was hit by a 25-year-old driver.

According to Andrea Lizbeth Ramirez who created the Go Fund Me page: “As most of you know, Leo Tinoco (my brother in law) recently passed away. Most have asked the family how they can contribute financially. They are currently grieving and need time to process their loss. I decided to help by creating this go fund me account. Thank you to everyone that has been reaching out to the family and is willing to help.
Liability In Santa Maria DUI Car Accidents
Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of fatal car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 50 minutes. These deaths have fallen by a third in the last three decades; however, drunk-driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year.” Even a moderate amount of alcohol below the legal limit can have serious effects on a person’s ability to drive safely. These include:
- Loss of judgement
- Altered mood
- Decline in visual function
- Reduced coordination
- Difficulty steering
It is a felony to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and cause an accident resulting in bodily injury. According to California Vehicle Code 23152, “(a) It is unlawful for a person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage to drive a vehicle. (b) It is unlawful for a person who has 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle.” Drivers that drink and drive will likely face civil as well as criminal liability.
The family of any victim that died in a car accident may be able to seek justice through a wrongful death claim. A civil claim can help with lost wages, medical bills, funeral expenses and loss of love. It’s important that evidence is properly preserved and collected after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
