Motorcyclist Killed In Santa Fe Springs Semi-Truck Accident On the Imperial Highway By Shoemaker Avenue
SANTA FE SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA (August 31, 2020) – A motorcyclist has tragically died in a semi-truck accident on Imperial Highway by Shoemake Avenue.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. For reasons that remain under investigation a motorcyclist and a semi-truck were heading west on Imperial Avenue.
Both vehicles stopped at a red light and the motorcyclist began walking with the bike. The rider fell over before the light turned green. This is when the semi-truck ran the motorcyclist over.
Police say that the truck driver felt two bumps and noticed the motorcycle in the mirror. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim.
Despite life-saving measures the motorcyclist who police haven’t identified died at the scene. An investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Liability In Santa Fe Springs Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists are more likely to be seriously injured or killed in accidents for two reasons. They have a smaller profile than passenger vehicles and are therefore more likely to be overlooked. In the event of an accident they have less protection. Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to commercial trucks because these trucks tend to have very large blind spots.
All drivers are supposed to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians and other drivers. According to California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” There are a number of factors that may contribute to a fatal motorcycle accident including:
- Driver distraction
- Driver intoxication
- Driver fatigue
- Inclement weather
The family of any victim that died in a semi-truck accident may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and funeral costs. It is imperative that evidence is properly preserved and protected after an accident. Most intersections are covered by traffic cameras. Nearby cameras are also likely to have video footage of any accident that took place. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case free of cost and make sure that your rights are being protected.
