Liability In Mammoth Lakes Car Accidents

Car accidents are typically caused by a blend of different factors. According to the FMCSA, “Motor vehicle crashes are complex events. Usually they involve two or more vehicles. Elements that influence the occurrence of a crash may take place hours, days, or months before the crash. They include driver training and experience, vehicle design and manufacture, highway condition and traffic signaling, and weather conditions.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious and costly injuries including:

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

Many of the injuries associated with car accidents are not always physical. According to Very Well Mind, “Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) are the leading cause of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the general population. Each year, there are an estimated six million MVAs in the United States, resulting in over 2.5 million injuries. According to a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) study, 39.2% of MVA survivors develop PTSD.” There are a number of signs that a victim may be experiencing PTSD including:

  • Changes in emotional reaction
  • Intrusive memories
  • Negatives changes in thinking
  • Avoidance behaviors

Victims of car accidents will typically have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a bodily injury claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Even if the at fault driver does not have insurance victims may have recovery through Prop 213. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
