San Diego, CA (September 12, 2023) 1 person was killed on Sunday, September 10th, in a suspected DUI-related collision in Otay Mesa. The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred just before 5:30 a.m.
A Volkswagen Coupe ended up rear-ending a Honda SUV at a high speed, for reasons unknown. It occurred on the northbound side of Interstate 805, near State Route 905. The driver of the Honda, a 58-year-old man from Tijuana, was killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

Jess Matias, California Highway Patrol public-affairs officer, said that the driver of the Volkswagen was transported to a local hospital with injuries. All that is known at this time is that he was a 21-year-old man from Escondido.
Authorities at the scene suspect that he was driving while intoxicated.
