Redding, CA (September 13, 2023) 54-year-old Joseph Charles Landreth, of Redding, was hit and killed by a car on Highway 273 in Redding. Officials said that Landreth was wearing dark clothes at the time of the accident, making him harder to see.

The Redding Police Department said that a driver from Anderson, age 25, was traveling north on Highway 273 when he suddenly saw Joseph Charles Landreth, 54, standing in the left turn lane. The driver tried to brake but didn’t have enough time and couldn’t stop. He ended up hitting Landreth.
Emergency crews were called to the scene where they transported Landreth to a local hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Redding Police Officers are unsure why he was in the roadway.
