San Diego, CA (November 8, 2023) A motorcyclist was killed on southbound Interstate 805 near Sorrento Valley on Monday, November 6th, according to authorities. The California Highway Patrol said the crash took place just south of Interstate 5 near Sorrento Valley. California Highway Patrol Officer, Salvador Castro, said in a news release on Tuesday, November 7th, that the fatal collision occurred just before 9:00 p.m.
An Oceanside man was riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle down Interstate 805 when he stopped in traffic lanes on the freeway. A red Honda Crosstour was also driving down the freeway and crashed into the motorcycle, according to officers. The motorcyclist was thrown from his motorcycle and landed on the freeway where he was then struck by another vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews arrived and found the motorcyclist with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, an 84-year-old man from San Diego, stayed at the scene and waited for officers. He then cooperated with them during the investigation, according to Castro.
Upon further investigation, authorities do not believe the driver of the Honda was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.
Police officers shut down the two right lanes of Interstate 805 southbound to clean the area and investigate the crash. Officers aren’t sure why the motorcyclist was stopped in the middle of the interstate, but they hope to discover what actually happened during their investigation.
Liability In San Diego Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists have a naturally small profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. Many collisions are due to drivers that make dangerous lane changes. According to California Vehicle Code 22107, “No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement.” There are a number of factors that could potentially contribute to a motorcycle accident including:
- Speeding
- Drunk driving
- Driver distraction
- Inclement weather
The family of any victim that died in a motorcycle accident may be able to seek aid through a wrongful death claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are. There are, however, statute of limitations associated with civil claims. Failing to act within the statute of limitations may result in a permanent forfeiture of your rights.
