Bakersfield, CA (March 31, 2024) It was right around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29th, when officers received the call of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. The fatal pedestrian accident took place on Buck Owens Boulevard in Bakersfield and, according to officers, the driver fled the scene.
Darkness covered the area as a male pedestrian headed walked along the northern lanes in the 3200 block of Owens Boulevard. The pedestrian wasn’t within a designated crosswalk as a white hatchback approached him. The vehicle struck the pedestrian as he walked, knocking him to the ground. Instead of stopping and calling 911, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian with critical injuries.
The Bakersfield Police Department hurried to the scene and found the man lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle responsible was nowhere to be found. Paramedics rushed to give aid to the pedestrian, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Sadly, officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officers investigated the scene and searched for any evidence that would help them identify the vehicle involved. They are determined to find the driver responsible for this collision. It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident.
