Littlerock, CA (May 1, 2024) An early morning drive on Pearblossom Highway was met with tragedy on Tuesday, April 30th. The morning was still dark as headlights led the way for vehicles along the highway. Tragically, the driver of a minivan lost control and collided with a truck and trailer near Hampel Avenue, leading to their death. Word spread quickly and the community of Littlerock awoke to sad news that morning.
A 2012 Dodge Minivan, driven by a 47-year-old, was heading west on Pearblossom Highway at approximately 65 miles per hour. It was right around 5:30 a.m. as the minivan kept a steady pace on the highway. Farther down the road, near Hampel Avenue, parked on the shoulder of State Route 138 (Pearblossom Highway), was a 2014 Kenworth truck that was pulling a trailer. It had pulled over because the driver had been on the road for hours and needed to sleep. As they slept inside the truck, the minivan lost control and veered to the right shoulder. The minivan crashed into the truck trailer, obviously waking the truck driver.
The California Highway Patrol was the first at the scene. Officers hurried to give life-saving aid to the minivan driver, but they were too late. The driver had been killed in the collision, reports indicated. Officers sadly pronounced the 47-year-old driver dead at the scene and called the Los Angeles County Department Medical Examiner.
The truck driver was uninjured and told officers all he knew. Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and are trying to determine what caused this fatal accident on Pearblossom Highway. At this time, it has not been determined if drugs or alcohol were factors in this deadly crash. Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to contact the Antelope Valley Area CHP at 661-948-8541 and ask for Officer E. Alonzo.
