San Diego, CA (May 11, 2024) The neighborhood of Kearny Mesa was shocked on Thursday, May 9th, as news spread of a woman being hit by a freight truck. The 38-year-old pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the San Diego accident. The injury accident happened right around 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of Ronson Road and Cardin Street.
A woman walked in the 4700 block of Cardin Street on Thursday morning. The sun had just risen and the world was slowly waking up as she strolled along the street. At the same time, a 2016 freight truck was driving north on Cardin Street. Suddenly, the truck hit the woman as she walked, reports indicated. Initial reports indicated that the woman was on the corner, near the curb line, at 7100 Ronson Road as the truck made a left turn. The T-shaped intersection is controlled by stop signs. The pedestrian waited for the truck to stop and then began crossing the street, just as the truck hit the gas and turned. The truck hit the woman when she walked across the street, officers said.
The San Deigo Police Department quickly arrived at the scene and found the woman with an open fracture on her left ankle. Paramedics rushed to her side and determined that she was otherwise okay. They placed her on a stretcher, carefully loaded her into an ambulance and transported her to a local hospital to receive treatment. She expected to make a full recovery.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers during their investigation. The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is in charge of this investigation and are determined to piece together what exactly occurred.
