San Diego, CA (May 30, 2024) At least five vehicles were involved in a massive collision in San Diego on Wednesday, May 29th. The collision occurred on Interstate 8 and left eight people with injuries, according to reports. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision happened right around noon, near Hotel Circle in the Mission Valley area.
The heavy traffic moved along as steadily as it could on Interstate 8 on Wednesday, right at 12:00 noon. For reasons still unknown, five vehicles traveling along the interstate all collided in a major, chaotic crash. Once the chaos died down and the sound of metal hitting metal ended, traffic began to back up on the freeway. The five vehicles were blocking several lanes of traffic, according to reports.
The California Highway Patrol and San Diego Fire-Rescue arrived at the scene and found the five vehicles, damaged and sitting in the middle of the westbound lanes of Interstate 8. Paramedics began checking vehicles and found several who needed medical attention. Eight people were sent to a hospital to receive further medical attention, following this accident, officers said. Thankfully, they are all expected to make a full recovery.
Officers reported that traffic was backed up for several miles following the collision as they investigated the scene. Tow trucks were called to remove the vehicles from the roadway and it took crews quite a while to remove all of the debris from the interstate. Officers continue to investigate this accident and are determined to discover what caused it and who was at fault.
