Delano, CA (May 31, 2024) A tragic accident occurred in the community of Delano on Wednesday night, May 29th. A three-vehicle collision occurred on the Porterville Highway 65, claiming one life and leaving two others with injuries. Initial reports indicated that the accident occurred around 6:22 p.m. near Sherwood Avenue in Kern County
Wednesday evening in Delano was met with tragedy. A silver Toyota pick up truck, a white sedan and a silver van were heading along Highway 65 when they suddenly collided. Following the collision, the dust settled and the sounds of metal hitting metal died away. In the quiet that followed, two people were trapped inside their vehicles. The van came to a stop in the middle of the highway, blocking traffic, along with the pickup truck. The white sedan went down an embankment before finally stopping in a smashed and damaged heap.
First responders quickly arrived at the scene and began directing traffic away from the accident. Paramedics began checking vehicles to help anyone who was injured. They found the two people trapped inside their vehicles and firefighters used specialized tools to extricate them. They had both sustained serious injuries in the collision and needed immediate medical attention. Paramedics called for a medical helicopter to come to the scene and take the two people to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the white sedan was found unresponsive following the accident. Sadly, authorities pronounced them dead at the scene and called for the coroner.
Officers were seen walking around the crash scene, gathering evidence and working to figure out what caused this deadly three-vehicle collision on Highway 65. The loss of life is always difficult to swallow as officers work to determine who was at fault for causing this collision. They had to request tow trucks come to the scene and remove the severely damaged vehicles from the highway and debris and glass had to be swept away so motorists could resume.
