Oakland, CA (June 21, 2024) The community of Oakland is waking up to tragic news this morning. A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver just after midnight on Friday morning, June 21st. The fatal crime occurred near June Court, not far from Interstate 80.
Darkness covered the roads after midnight on Friday, June 21st. A pedestrian was walking near June Court as vehicles occasionally passed. Suddenly, a vehicle struck the pedestrian, knocking them to the ground with great force. The driver didn’t stop following the collision, but instead, hit the gas and fled the scene. The pedestrian was left behind with life-threatening injuries, according to reports.
Officers are not certain how long the pedestrian lied there before they received the call. They arrived at the scene and found the victim lying on the ground, motionless. Officers were ready to begin life-saving treatment on the pedestrian, but sadly, they were too late. The victim had succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers covered the pedestrian with a tarp and called for the coroner.
They then began investigating the scene to try and determine what exactly happened. officers are determined to figure out what kind of vehicle struck the pedestrian, using the clues found at the scene. They are also hoping to find the vehicle and, in turn, locate the driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run accident.
