A 67-year-old woman walked along Lenox Drive in a San Diego neighborhood on Tuesday evening, June 25th. As she walked, a 2005 GMC Yukon approached her while heading west. Suddenly, the driver became aware of the sun blinding him as he drove. He reached up to lower the sun visit and hit something. That something turned out to be a female pedestrian. The collision occurred at 5100 Lenox Drive, right around 6:25 p.m., according to police officers.

The San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and found the woman on the ground. The driver of the Yukon remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Paramedics rushed to the pedestrian’s side and found that she was seriously injured. They loaded her into an ambulance and transported her to a local hospital to receive treatment for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel at the scene reported that the woman sustained a broken ankle and a huge laceration on her head.
The driver of the Yukon, a 33-year-old man, told officers that he was pulling down his visor and took his eyes off the road for a mere second when the accident occurred. He was only traveling at about 10-15 miles per hour when he struck the pedestrian, but even at that speed, injuries are expected. The San Diego Police Department took statements and gathered evidence at the scene. They are working as quickly as they can to understand what exactly happened on Lexox Drive that evening.
