Claudio Franquez Struck, Killed on the 5

Unborn baby killed, mother critically injured, following multi-vehicle collision on I-5 in Coalinga.

Boyle Heights, CA (July 1, 2024) A tragedy occurred this weekend on Saturday, June 29. A man named Claudio Franquez was struck and killed by a vehicle while on foot. He was 26.

Officers of the California Highway Patrol were notified of the collision at about 12:48 a.m. that morning. When they arrived at the scene, they pronounced the victim deceased. He was laying in one of the lanes of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway. He had been hit by a truck.

The California Highway Patrol quickly issued a SigAlert and closed three lanes of the 5 as they investigated the scene. The investigation is ongoing. The latest reports have not revealed if the driver who struck Franquez has been identified, how the crash occurred, whether or not impaired driving was involved, or if speeding was a factor.
