Fresno County, CA (July 30, 2024) A tragic accident occurred in Fresno County on Monday night, July 29th. An 85-year-old man from Sacramento was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 5, not far from Nees Avenue, reports indicated.
The 85-year-old man was driving a 2005 Ford, heading south on Interstate 5. As he drove in the number 2 lane of the freeway at a slow rate of speed, a 2012 Chevrolet approached in the next lane. The Chevy was driven by a 32-year-old and officers reported that he was traveling at a speed of 70 to 75 miles per hour. He began to pass the elderly man, when suddenly, the driver of the Ford made a left turn and slammed into the Chevy. The second the vehicles collided, the Ford burst into flames, reports indicated.
The California Highway Patrol could see the flames before they even reached the scene. They requested the fire department who arrived and quickly extinguished the flames. Sadly, the 85-year-old man died in the fiery collision, officers reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. There have been no reports as to whether or not anyone else was injured in this Fresno County collision.

Detectives are still trying to determine what exactly happened on that stretch of Interstate 5 on Monday night. Tow trucks had to haul the burned and destroyed Ford from the scene and crews worked to remove all of the charred debris from the scene.
