The collision occurred in the northbound lanes, not far from Neil Road, according to reports. The accident, which happened right around 8:30 a.m., involved a dump truck and caused massive traffic delays.
Commuters were on their way to work and various other locations on Monday morning during heavy traffic on Interstate 580. Suddenly, and for reasons that are still unknown, a dump truck crashed in the northbound lanes. At this time, it isn’t known if the dump truck driver lost control of the vehicle or if it collided with another vehicle. However, the collision caused huge traffic delays on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found traffic backed up in both directions. They hurried to the dump truck to see if anyone was injured and found one person with significant injuries, reports indicated. Paramedics transported the person to a local hospital where they received emergency treatment for undisclosed injuries.
Officers had to close northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 580 as they investigated this collision and cleaned up the mess. The dump truck had to be removed from the scene and the entire situation kept traffic backed up for hours, officers reported.
