Mission Hills, CA (August 13, 2024) A scary and tragic accident occurred in Mission Hills on Monday night, August 12th, 2024. A vehicle drove off a freeway and landed in a residential backyard, officers reported. It all happened just after 11:00 p.m. and claimed one person’s life.
Vehicles drove along the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway and the San Diego (405) Freeway in Mission Hills on Monday night. Suddenly, one of the vehicles drove off the highway and landed with a crash in a back yard. The driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was thrown from the vehicle, officers reported. The residents of 10731 N. Burnet Avenue called 911 and the California Highway Patrol hurried to the scene.
Officers arrived at the residence and found the vehicle in the backyard with major damage. The driver had been ejected during the accident and officers hurried to their side, prepared to administer medical aid. Sadly, the driver did not survive the accident. However, at this time, it isn’t known if the victim died at the scene or at a hospital.
The residential back yard was now an accident scene as officers gathered evidence. They are still not sure what caused the vehicle to drive off of the freeway and land in the back yard. Officers are working to determine what exactly happened on Monday night in Mission Hills. The damaged vehicle had to be removed from the back yard, which was left covered in debris, among other things.
