2 Motorcyclists Killed In I-5 Crash In Irvine

Motorcyclist killed on 101 Freeway in Studio City.

Irvine, CA (August 28, 2024) Tragedy struck the community of Irvine on Sunday morning, August 25th, 2024. Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision on the Interstate 5 Freeway, according to reports. Officers said it happened just after midnight and nearly 50 motorcyclists were found at the scene.

A large group of motorcyclists were traveling along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, near Culver Drive, right around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday morning. Suddenly, two of the motorcycles collided, officers said. Witnesses at the scene told police officers that one of the motorcycles was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the accident.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the two riders on the ground, surrounded by a large group of at least 50 other motorcyclists. First responders pronounced both motorcyclists Dead at the scene just before 12:30 a.m. The two who lost their lives were a 31-year-old man from West Covina, and a 23-year-old man from Colton, officers reported.

A SigAlert was issued as officers worked to investigate the scene. Crews then began cleaning up the scene, according to reports. Officers continue to work on this case in an effort to understand what caused this deadly accident, as well as who was responsible.
