Sacramento, CA (October 17, 2024) A pedestrian was tragically struck and killed on Wednesday morning, October 16th, 2024, in Sacramento. It happened on Highway 50 at approximately 5:23 a.m. in the Newton Booth neighborhood, not far from 16th Street.
It was still dark outside as traffic began to pick up on westbound Highway 50 in Sacramento. Not far from 16th Street, a pedestrian was walking along the side of the highway. Just before 5:30 a.m., a vehicle struck the pedestrian, knocking them to the ground.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground, unresponsive. Officers began performing life-saving measures, but it was too late. The victim had succumbed to their injuries and, with heavy hearts, officials pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with officers during their investigation.
Officers are working to better understand what happened on that stretch of Highway 50 in Sacramento on Wednesday morning. The roadway had to be closed during the investigation and was finally reopened around 7:30 a.m., reports indicated.
