Camp Pendleton, CA (October 23, 2024) A two-vehicle collision occurred in the middle of the night in Camp Pendleton, in San Diego County. The devastating accident claimed one person’s life and left two with life-threatening injuries. It happened just after 1:30 in the morning on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision took place on Interstate 5, between the Las Pulgas Exit and Exit 54C.
The quiet early morning was rocked by the sound of metal colliding as an SUV and a black Audi crashed on Interstate 5. The Audi was traveling sound on the freeway when it collided with an SUV, for unknown reasons. It then slammed into a parked semi-truck before rolling onto its side, officers reported. A man in another vehicle witnessed the accident and immediately stopped to help. He ran to the damaged Audi and managed to help one person get out of the vehicle. He then called 911 to report the accident and remained at the scene to speak with officers.

First resonders arrived at the scene and found the damaged SUV and the Audi on its side. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove two people who were trapped inside the Audi. Officers requested an air ambulance to come to the scene and two people were airlifted to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. A third person inside the Audi sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The driver of the SUV had also sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital, via ambulance.
Officers gathered evidence and are working to determine what caused this accident on Interstate 5 in Camp Pendleton. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove both vehicles from the raodway and crews worked for a while cleaning up glass and debris from the area.
