The sun had yet to rise over Bakersfield at 5:00 a.m., as a pedestrian walked along Highway 43. Suddenly, a vehicle approached, headlights shining through the darkness. Without warning, the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The impact sent the victim flying through the air before coming to a hard landing on the ground. The driver immediately hit the brakes and got out to check on the victim.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the vehicle, headlights still shining. The driver was standing outside the vehicle, anxiously waiting for authorities. Officers hurried to the pedestrian, who was found on the ground, motionless. They were prepared to give life-saving treatment, but the victim had already succumbed to their injuries.
