LONG BEACH, CA (JULY 31, 2023): Authorities continue to investigate the collision that led to the death of 29-year-old Leobardo Cervantes on July 9th. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the hit-and-run crash occurred at about 7:55 a.m., when a dark colored sedan struck Cervantes as he was riding his bicycle at the intersection of California Street and Harding Street. The impact flung him off his bicycle.

Authorities discovered Cervantes lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries and he was transported to a local hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and died on July 22nd.
Authorities believe the sedan intentionally slowed down on Harding Street to run over Cervantes. They so far have not discovered a motive, and are working to further identify the driver.
