Castro Valley, CA (July 28, 2024) A bicyclist sustained serious injuries when they were hit by a pickup truck in Castro Valley. The victim ended up pinned underneath the pickup truck, according to reports. It all happened around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 26th, on Anita Avenue.
A bicyclist was riding along Anita Avenue, not far from Castro Valley Boulevard, as a gray pickup truck approached. The pickup struck the bicycle and the pickup went over the bicycle, causing the rider to become pinned beneath the vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck immediately stopped and called 911. The collision blocked all of the eastbound lanes, officers reported.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find the bicycle and its rider pinned under the pickup truck. Crews had to use special tools to free the bicycle and the rider from under the pickup truck. Once they removed the victim, paramedics immediately began evaluating the rider for injuries. The bicyclist was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bicycle was dented and smashed and had to be hauled from the scene, according to reports.
