Carmel Valley, CA (February 13, 2024) A 63-year-old man was riding his bicycle along Carmel Creek Road when he was hit by a vehicle, officers said. It was Monday afternoon, at approximately 1:30, when one mistake by a driver quickly turned into an emergency. The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and required emergency surgery following this terrible accident, according to Officer John Buttle with the San Diego Police Department.
It was a peaceful Monday afternoon as a 63-year-old man rode his bicycle in Carmel Valley. As he headed down Carmel Creek Road, a 2023 Chevrolet Volt was approaching him, driving by a 33-year-old female. The driver turned right onto Carmel Creek Road and hit the bicyclist in the 12300 block of Carmel Creek Road, officers said. The man was thrown from his bicycle and landed hard on the ground near the damaged bike.

The San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and found the man with serious injuries on the ground. Paramedics evaluated him and quickly took him to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. According to reports, the man suffered a lacerated kidney, a brain hemorrhage and abrasions all over his body. He was prepped for surgery and taken to the OR to receive further treatment.
Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this collision. The victim remains in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said.
