Placer County, CA (June 28, 2024)
A young bicyclist was tragically killed in a crash on Highway 174.
California Highway Patrol officials reported that the collision occurred north of Colfax shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday morning. A man on a bicycle wearing dark clothes and no reflectors was in the middle of the street between Red Frog Bar and Hill Road. He was apparently either stopped, or riding very slowly.
The man, who was in his mid-30s, was struck by a pickup truck that hit him head-on. The driver of the truck stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities in the investigation. He stated that he did not see the bicyclist, whose identity has not been released.
Details are still unfolding. Officials say they don’t believe the driver was under the influence.
