Cyclist seriously injured in Torrey Highlands area after being struck by 80-year-old in SUV

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 20, 2022) – A 57-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after she was struck by an 80-year-old man driving an SUV according to the San Diego Tribune.

The elderly man was in a Volvo XC90 SUV when he turned right onto Camino Del Sur from the freeway exit and collided with the bicyclist. The woman riding her bicycle was in a crosswalk specifically for the protected bike trail.

The accident occurred during rush hour around 5:25 p.m. near SR-56 and Camino Del Sur.

The woman sustained serious injuries, which included a fractured pelvis and her lumbar vertebrae. San Diego Police officers believe that her injuries are not life-threatening.

The names of the victim and the elderly driver are yet unknown.
