Innocent Bicyclist Injured In El Segundo Police Chase

El Segundo, CA (August 5, 2024) The community of El Segundo was left in shock following a police chase that critically injured a bicyclist. The accident took place at Mariposa Avenue and Center Street on Sunday afternoon, August 4th. Officers were pursuing a man who struck a bicyclist right around 2:00 p.m., according to reports.

The streets of El Segundo were suddenly filled with sirens as a team of officers pursued a suspect. As the suspect approached the intersection of Mariposa Avenue and Center Street, a bicyclist was riding down the street. The fleeing suspect hit the bicyclist with his car and continued driving away. The bicyclist was thrown from his bicycle and landed on the street. Reports indicated the Sheriff’s Gang Narcotics team attempted to stop the suspect, but the driver pressed down on the gas pedal and rammed the officer’s patrol vehicle. The suspect then continued to flee.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground. They had sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, via ambulance, to receive emergency treatment. Reports indicate that the bicyclist remains in critical condition. Officers are still trying to find the suspect.
