Oxnard, CA (April 22, 2024) A tragic bicycle accident left the community of Oxnard in disbelief on Sunday night. 35-year-old Joey Paquet from North Hollywood was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding his bike on Highway 101. The collision occurred at the northbound off-ramp of the highway, according to the Oxnard Police Department.
Paquet was riding his bicycle south in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 on Sunday night. As he approached the off-ramp at Oxnard Boulevard, a vehicle, driven by a woman, attempted a right turn from the Highway 101 off-ramp. As the vehicle turned, it collided with Paquet’s bicycle. The Oxnard Police Department received the call and hurried to the scene. They found the bicycle dented, smashed and severely damaged. Paquet laid on the ground several feet from the bike, without moving. Paramedics rushed to his side, ready to administer life-saving treatment, but Paquet had already succumbed to his injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced Joey Paquet dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Officers with the Oxnard Police Department are trying to figure out what caused this fatal collision on Highway 101. The bicycle was hauled from the scene as officers waited for the coroner to arrive.
