Bicyclist James Brown, 51, Killed by 2 Cars in Oakland

Bicyclist struck and killed on I-880 in Oakland.

Oakland, CA (June 21, 2024) A tragedy occurred on Friday morning just before midnight.

Witnesses reportedly called police and told them that a hit-and-run crash occurred near Nattress Way. A bicyclist, Oakland Resident James Brown, was thrown from his seat and onto the roadway. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene. He was only 51.

Video surveillance showed that around 11:56 p.m., an early-2000s BMW that is either white or silver struck Brown as it was speeding northbound on 105th. Tragically, it didn’t stop.

Even worse, just after midnight, another driver in a silver Saturn was speeding southbound, and they too ran over Brown. Then, the male driver stopped, removed Brown’s bicycle from underneath the Saturn, and drove away.

Oakland police encourage anyone with information about this crime to call them. They are still searching for the suspects. They and the Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information that leads to the fleeing drivers.
