Oceanside, CA (August 10, 2023) 1 person is dead and 3 others injured after a multi-vehicle collision Wednesday night. Mark Keyes with the California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5, near State Route 78.
According to authorities, a red sedan was parked on the side of the interstate for unknown reasons. A red Corvette was passing vehicles on the shoulder at high speeds and crashed into the sedan. The impact from the Corvette caused the sedan to move into the number 1 lane (slow lane) just as a semi-truck was coming. The 18-wheeler then collided with the sedan.

After the second collision, the driver of the Corvette exited their vehicle and began running up a nearby hill on foot. Police officers were pursued the individual and were able to catch and arrest him.
There was a passenger in the red sedan who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were 4 people in the red sedan, 1 in the Corvette, and 1 in the 18-wheeler. Three people were injured in this collision, according to Mark Keyes. Authorities are investigating the collision and are unsure if alcohol or drugs played at role.
