Riverside, CA (October 29, 2024) A driver was arrested after causing a multi-vehicle collision on Thursday, October 24th, in Riverside. The collision occurred as a suspect erratically attempted to flee police in the La Sierra neighborhood. The accident claimed one person’s life and left three others with injuries, officers reported. It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Collett Avenue and Riverwalk Parkway.
It all started when 62-year-old Ezekial Avendano Lopez was fleeing police officers in Riverside. Lopez was driving a white Nissan Maxima through the La Sierra neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. He was driving at a high rate of speed when he went through the intersection of Collett Avenue and Riverwalk Parkway. At approximately 2:30 p.m., he caused a chain reaction collision involving several vehicles.
Emergency personnel arrived and found the damaged vehicles in the middle of the intersection. They hurried to the vehicles to see if anyone was in need of medical attention following this collision. They found four people with injuries and paramedics transported them to a local hospital to receive treatment. Unfortunately, one of the victims, a 49-year-old woman died at the hospital.
Officers arrested Lopez and booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center where he faces several charges. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove several of the damaged vehicles from the intersection and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the debris that was left behind.
