Amarillo, TX (December 12, 2023) Joseph Hunter Kiliewer, 18, was killed in an Amarillo crash on Spur 228, not far from Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, authorities said. The fatal 2-vehicle collision took place right around 10:00 p.m.
A Toyota was heading south on Spur 228 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to the initial investigation. The Toyota began to skid sideways into oncoming traffic. At the same time, a Nissan was traveling north on Spur 228. It couldn’t avoid the Toyota and ended up slamming into its side.

Police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene to find the Toyota sedan with major damage to the passenger side. The Nissan was also damaged and the road was covered in debris, according to the Amarillo Police Department.
Paramedics hurried to help the young driver of the Toyota, later identified as Joseph Hunter Kiliewer, but sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash. The people in the Nissan were seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. There has been no update on their condition.
The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad is leading the investigation into this accident. They do, however, suspect that speed may have been a factor in this fatal crash.
