San Bernardino County, CA (June 28, 2024)
Early this morning, a police chase began at about 2 a.m. in Rancho Cucamonga. An officer was trying to pull someone over to do a traffic stop. The driver failed to pull over, prompting a chase. Officials are reporting that the fleeing driver might have been under the influence.
The sheriff’s department reports that the chase ended in Upland when the driver crashed into another car. This occurred near Mountain Avenue and 16th Street. The drive from Rancho Cucamonga to Upland is about nine to ten minutes.
People at the scene report that a Ford Mustang–perhaps the suspect’s car–sustained significant front-end damage. The other vehicle was left in an embankment on the side of the road. Footage of the aftermath shows this darker car on the embankment completely torn apart and nearly unrecognizable.
Authorities were still investigating at the scene as the sun rose.
Four men who were in the fleeing vehicle were killed. At least two people in the other car have been hospitalized.
