Roseville, CA (Kuly 24, 2024) Traffic on Interstste 80 at the Eureka Road off-ramp came to a halt on Sunday afternoon, July 21st. Two vehicles collided, causing the backup in traffic, and left five people with injuries, officers reported. It all took place just before 3:00 p.m. in Roseville.
A 2020 Hyundai Palisade was heading north on Interstate 80, driven by 43-year-old Ryan Penano, a Rancho Cordova resident. At the same time, a 2017 Nissan Frontier was south, driven by 52-year-old Antelope resident, Dale Benjamin. Reports indicated that Benjamin was traveling at a high rate of speed from southbound Atlantic Street and lost control of the vehicle while navigating the cloverleaf of the interstate. Benjamin ended up going south in the northbound lane, according to reports. Benjamin’s Nissan slammed into the Hyundai, head-on, forcing the Hyundai to overturn. Benjamin then hit a guardrail and went down a steep embankment before coming to a stop.
Emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene and found the two damaged vehicles. Traffic was beginning to back up, due to the accident, and officers began directing traffic around the collision. Officers found Benjamin with serious injuries. His passenger was also injured but the extend wasn’t as severe, reports indicated. Penano had two children in the vehicle with him. All three were critically injured in the accident and rushed to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, along with Benjamin and his passenger.
Officers had to call tow trucks to the scene to remove both damaged vehicles from the roadway. Crews worked as quickly as they could to clean up the glass and debris that had been left behind. It was hours before the roadways were reopened, reports indicated.
