Gonzales, CA (October 21, 2024) The community of Gonzales was shocked and saddened as news spread of a five-vehicle collision that claimed a man’s life. The collision occurred on Highway 101 near Gloria Road in Monterey County, around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 19th.
A chain-reaction collision was caused by a 16-year-old boy in Gonzales on Saturday morning. The teenager was driving a 2021 Chevy 2500 and pulling a trailer, according to reports. As he headed south on Highway 101, he slammed into the back of a Chevy Colorado that was traveling in front of him. The impact sent the two Chevrolets colliding with a maroon Toyota Sienna, a white Honda Accord, and a white Chevy pickup truck. The Chevrolet Colorado lost control and then rolled, according to reports.
Emergency personnel with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and found the five vehicles with major damage in the middle of Highway 101. They hurried to the vehicles, ready to administer life-saving medical attention to anyone who had been injured. Unfortunately, the driver of the Chevrolet Colorado, a 49-year-old man from Salinas, was killed in the collision. Authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Another person inside the Colorado also sustained injuries in the accident. Paramedics transported the person to Natividad Medical Center to receive treatment for undisclosed injuries.
Officers are investigating this accident and trying to figure out what started this collision on Highway 101. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the highway.
