Riverside, CA (July 17, 2024) A multi-vehicle collision ended in a tragic fatality on July 16 in Riverside. Investigators are still figuring out how the pileup initially occurred.
A little after 2 a.m. on I-215 in Riverside, a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer and a 2023 Nissan sedan were stopped for unknown reasons. The driver of a 2009 Mercury SUV did not see the stopped vehicles and slammed into the rear of the tractor-trailer and then the Nissan.
The Mercury driver, identified as Alex Rey of Rialto, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two drivers sustained minor injuries but were not hospitalized. Reports have not said if anyone involved in the prior collisions that are still being investigated sustained any injuries.
