South Los Angeles, CA (May 8, 2024) A tragic accident claimed the life of 18-year-old Brandon Garcia on Thursday, May 2nd. The fiery two-vehicle collision took place on the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway in South Los Angeles, not too far from Vermont Avenue. Officers reported that the crash happened around 10:44 p.m. and, unfortunately, Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 911 call was received by the California Highway Patrol just 10:45 p.m. regarding a two-vehicle collision on the 105 Freeway. The CHP arrived quickly at the scene and found a Honda Prius and a sedan on the west side of the freeway near the Vermont Avenue exit. Officers reported that the sedan was on the right shoulder of the freeway and the Honda was on fire. Firefighters at the scene quickly put out the flames and rushed to rescue the driver of the Honda, identified as 18-year-old Garcia. Sadly, he had not survived the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert and had to close the 105 Freeway at the Vermont Avenue on-ramp as well as the westbound lanes. Investigators gathered evidence and worked to determine what exactly happened on the 105 Freeway in South Los Angeles that night. They also hope to determine who was responsible for this fatal accident. The burned Honda had to be removed from the scene by a tow truck and crews diligently worked to clear the roadway of debris.
