Imperial County, CA (August 13, 2024) The community of Imperial County was saddened to hear that a child had sustained serious injuries in a collision on Saturday morning, August 10th, 2024. The single-vehicle accident took place on State Route 78, not far from Ogilby Road. The 8:45 a.m. collision also left an adult with injuries, officers reported.
As a vehicle traveled north on State Route 78, the driver suddenly lost control. The car drifted off the roadway, causing a serious collision. At this time, it has not been disclosed if the vehicle rolled or crashed into something. However, the accident left both the driver of the vehicle and the child, who was a passenger, injured. The vehicle remained on the side of the road with serious damage from the accident, as it sat in the middle of debris.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the damaged vehicle. They quickly checked the car to see if anyone had been injured and found an adult and a child, both with injuries. The child, however, had sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to a Ranger Station in the area. A medical helicopter from REACH then transported the child from the Ranger Station to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. It is unknown at this time if the injured adult was treated at the scene or taken to a local hospital.
The accident is currently being investigated to determine what happened on State Route 78 in Imperial County that morning.
