Fiery Single-Vehicle Collision In Altadena Kills John Michael Ross, Emalie Marie Ortiz

Fiery collision in Atascadero claims one life on Highway 41.

Altadena, CA (March 5, 2024) The community of Altadena was saddened this morning as news spread of two people killed in a fiery car crash. The traumatic accident occurred just after 1:00 a.m. at Loma View Drive and 64 West Loma Alta, according to officers. The accident ended with the vehicle becoming engulfed in flames, reports indicated. 29-year-old John Michael Ross and 23-year-old Emalie Marie Ortiz were both killed in this devastating crash.

It was 1:03 a.m. in Altaadena as Ross and Ortiz headed along West Loma Alta. For reasons still unknown, the vehicle suddenly slammed into a parked car and then rolled before landing on its roof. It then burst into flames, officers reported. The flames filled the dark, early morning sky as the 911 call was received by dispatchers.

Firefighters rushed to the scene along with the California Highway Patrol. Upon arrival, they discovered the vehicle engulfed in flames. The Los Angeles County Fire Department quickly got to work getting the flames under control. Paramedics hurried to the vehicle, only to find the two occupants, Ross and Ortiz, deceased. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the two dead at the scene and awaited the coroner’s arrival, officer Sean Lough said.

Detectives searched the scene for evidence and are determined to figure out what exactly caused this devastating accident in Altadena. Anyone with any information regarding this horrible accident, is asked to contact the police.
