Winchester, CA (June 24, 2024) A traumatic two-vehicle collision sent four people to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, June 23rd. The collision took place at the intersection of California Avenue and Simpson Road, according to reports. At approximately 1:40 p.m., the two vehicles collided, leaving one critically injured, two seriously injured and one with only minor injuries. Sadly, Kimberly Higgins, who was seriously injured, later died at Inland Valley Medical Center. The Hemet resident, pronounced dead at the scene, was 51, according to reports.
A Sunday afternoon drive took a stressful turn for four people in Winchester. Two vehicles collided, for reasons still unknown, at the intersection of California Avenue and Simpson Road around 1:40 p.m., reports indicated. The Riverside County collision blocked a portion of the intersection and left debris all over the intersection.
The Riverside County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes, according to reports. They found the two vehicles with major damage in the middle of the intersection. Paramedics hurried to the vehicles to give aid to anyone in need and found four people with injuries. One person, identified as Higgins, had sustained critical injuries in the accident and paramedics requested a medical helicopter. Medical staff at Inland Valley Medical Center did everything they could, but Higgins succumbed to her injuries roughly five hours after arriving.

Officers began moving traffic away from the scene and created a space for the helicopter to land. The critically injured person was loaded into other air ambulance and rushed to a hospital to receive emergency care. Two other people sustained serious injuries in the collision and a fourth victim suffered from minor injuries. All three were taken to a local hospital by ambulance, according to reports.
The investigation is being handled by the CHP who gathered evidence at the scene and took statements. They are working as quickly as they can to determine what caused this collision and also, who was responsible. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles and debris had to be cleared from the intersection.
