Crockett, CA (December 8, 2023) 15-year-old Giovanni Gomez from Vallejo was killed in a car accident in Crockett near Interstate 80, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department. The accident occurred on Monday, December 4th, just before 1:30 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol was alerted about the collision from the Conta Costa County Sheriff’s Department. They reported that their deputies were pursuing a blue Kia Optima that had been reported as stolen. It was traveling east on Interstate Highway 80, deputies said. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit and followed the vehicle as it took the Cummings Skyway exit. The driver of the Kia continued fleeing at a high rate of speed.

Just before 1:30 a.m., the Kia went off the roadway and overturned in a field. Officers found that Gomez was thrown from the vehicle during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers had to call for the Kia to be towed as evidence and they are working to try and determine why the 15-year-old stole the vehicle in the first place. Whatever the reason, a family lost their son in this tragic collision.
