San Bernardino County, CA (October 28, 2024) Lake Havasu resident, Higinio Reyes Sanchez, 30, was killed in a head-on collision on Sunday afternoon, October 27th. The fatal crash occurred on Twentynine Palms Highway (also known as SR-62) at approximately 3:00 p.m., not far from Old Dale in the Sheephole Valley Wilderness.
A white pickup truck and a white Toyota Camry were heading along Twentynine Palms Highway on Sunday afternoon, when the two vehicles suddenly collided, head-on. The sound of metal colliding with metal filled the afternoon air and debris landed all around the two, now badly damaged vehicles.
The California Highway Patrol quickly arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles with severe damage. They found one person trapped inside one of the vehicles and had to use special tools to free them. 30-year-old Higinio Reyes Sanchez had sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and succumbed to them at the scene. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene and placed a tarp over the body.
Investigators took statements and gathered every piece of evidence they could find at the scene. They are working to determine not only what happened to cause this fatal head-on crash, but also, who was responsible. Tow trucks had to remove both of the badly damaged vehicles from the scene and crews worked to clear the glass and debris from the highway.
