Walnut Creek, CA (October 25, 2024) Several vehicles were involved in a collision on Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek this morning. The accident happened around 6:00 a.m., not far from Rudgear Road, officers reported. At least three vehicles were involved and were difficult to see in the early morning darkness, nearly leading to more collisions.
Officers reported that a gray Nissan Maxima, white GMC truck, and a Honda sedan were involved in this collision. For reasons that remain unknown, the three vehicles collided around 6:00 a.m. The vehicles blocked the roadway, causing other vehicles to narrowly miss them. Officers also reported that debris littered the roadway, causing hazards to other motorists on the freeway.
Officers had to issue a SigAlert and closed a portion of the freeway while they responded to the collision. They found three people trapped inside their vehicle and had to use special tools to extricate them, according to reports. Unfortunately, another person was killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. One person was found with serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment.

Officers investigated the scene and tow trucks arrived to remove the badly damaged vehicles from the freeway. It took crews quite a while to remove the debris from the section of Interstate 680, before traffic could resume. Officers are working to determine what caused this fatal accident in Walnut Creek.
