Las Vegas, NV (May 11, 2024) Two Metro Police officers were injured in a collision involving another vehicle in northwest Las Vegas valley on Friday afternoon, May 10th. The accident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. on Cheyenne Avenue, near Interstate 215, according to reports.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were heading west on Cheyenne Avenue, going over Interstate 215. At the same time, another vehicle was driving east and made a left turn to get on I-215. The vehicle did not yield for the police officers’ vehicle and turned right into their path, reports indicated. There was not time for the patrol vehicle to brake and it slammed into the passenger vehicle. The force from the crash caused the passenger vehicle to roll, until it finally came to a stop.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the two officers with non-life-threatening injuries. The police officers were both transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, according to reports. The driver of the other vehicle also sustained injuries, but refused to ride in an ambulance and told paramedics they would take themselves to the hospital.
Crews cleaned up the scene once investigators were done gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses. They are trying to understand why the civilian didn’t yield when making a left hand turn.
