Maria Ayers, Serjio Medina Leon Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash In Fresno County

Multi-vehicle collision at a Las Vegas intersection injures 1.

Fresno County, CA (March 27, 2024) The intersection of Buttonwillow Avenue and Parlier Avenue in Fresco County became deadly on Monday, March 25th. 40-year-old Maria Ayers and her passenger, 58-year-old Serjio Medina Leon were both killed in a two-vehicle collision in this very intersection, just outside of Reedley, according to officers.

Ayers was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus as she approached the Fresno County intersection. At the same time, a Ford F-150 pickup truck pulling a trailer was also nearing the intersection. Initial reports indicated that Ayers ran the stop sign and drove into the intersection right into the path of the pickup and trailer. The driver of the Ford pickup had no time to stop and hit the Ford Focus that Ayers was driving.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene moments before paramedics and rushed to help those who were injured. Sadly, emergency medical personnel found Leon deceased and pronounced him dead at the scene. Ayers was still alive but had sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision. Paramedics loaded her into an ambulance and rushed her to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries while in the ambulance and never made it to the hospital. She was pronounced dead as the ambulance sped down the road.

There was no word as to whether the driver of the pickup had sustained injuries in this collision. Officers searched the scene for evidence and the Ford Focus had to be towed from the scene. Investigators continue to work the case in an effort to determine why Ayers ran the stop sign and what led up to this fatal collision in Fresno County.
